Los Angeles Dodgers’ #16 prospect is Devin Mann, second baseman playing for the Tulsa Drillers, Dodgers AA team. He is 24 years old 6’3 weighing 180 pounds. Devin Mann was a 5th round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft.
He is currently has a .236 batting average with 4 HR and 26 RBIs. In 2019, his last full year in the minors, he played extremely well which opened the eyes of the Dodgers organization. I believe this slow start from Devin Mann is due to the pandemic and not playing competitive minor league games last year. He trained at the alternate site in 2020 to build on his hot season last year and continue his development. Devin Mann was also a non-roster invitee spring training participant this year. That is always important because the MLB players and coaching staff get a good look at you and see if you have what it takes to handle the hardships of the long season and see if you are a teachable player.
Devin Mann doesn’t strike out too much which is a nice change of pace. Not the most athletic player in the world but he has the look of a baseball player, not too strong but not stiff at all. His power is starting to show up in his game. He only had 15 HRs in his college career but in 2019 he hit 19 in one season so that is a very encouraging sign that his development is working. Mann is a decent fielder but doesn’t have a strong arm so second base is a good fit for him. He has the skill to play third base but that is not an everyday position for him.
Devin’s ETA is 2022 but I do not see that happening. There are too many better prospects in the Dodger organization for him to be called up. He actually would be a nice complimentary piece to go with a Keibert Ruiz trade package.
