Jimmy Lewis is a 20-year-old right-handed pitcher playing for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, the Los Angeles Dodgers Low-A Affiliate. He stands 6’6 weighing 200 pounds. Jimmy Lewis was drafted in 2019 by the Dodgers in the 2nd round as a compensatory pick, 78th overall.
He has thrown 26.2 innings this year and has a 7.09 ERA. Lewis has just been flat-out struggling this year in his first year of minor league ball. He is a starting pitcher for the Quakes but only throws about 3 innings a start which is either because he is struggling in-game, or he isn’t built up to throw more innings.
His pitching repertoire is Fastball, Curveball, and a Changeup. Fastball sits at 92-94 MPH but with his adrenaline, he hits 97 MPH. Looks like it could be his next best pitch. He has an opportunity to throw it faster when he gets older due to his size. His curveball doesn’t have a lot of break to it but he can locate the pitch anywhere on the plate. His changeup is something we don’t know enough about because he hasn’t needed to throw that pitch in high school. He has a quick delivery and hides the ball the whole way through his delivery so it’s tough for the batters to see the ball come out of his hand.
Jimmy Lewis’s ETA is in 2024 which shows that Jimmy Lewis is a project player and has a lot of room to grow. With his age and the Dodgers’ excellent player development staff, he has a chance to become a nice back-end starter.
