The Los Angeles Dodgers #20 prospect is Jesus Galiz, a 17-year-old Catcher. He is 6’0 tall weighing 183 pounds. Jesus Galiz signed with the Dodgers in January of this year as an International Free Agent out of Venezuela. He is currently playing for the Dominican Summer League Dodgers Bautista, rookie ball.
Galiz only has had 38 at-bats so far, as of August 6th, 2021 and has collected eight hits. He had a horrible year last year when it should have been the happiest time of his life so far. His father passed away last deal due to complications from the Coronavirus. In addition to dealing with his father’s death, the New York Yankees pulled their offer off the table due to COVID cutbacks. The offer from the Yankees was $1.5 million and that was the team his father wanted him to sign with. The Dodgers were stunned that happened due to the MLB world thinking he was going to the Yankees no questions asked. The Dodgers decided to jump at the opportunity and signed him to an $800,000 signing bonus.
Jesus Galiz has the ability to hit the ball all over the field. With the power he possesses at a young age he has a chance of having 20 hr seasons. What teams love about this guy is his maturity at such a young age and how smart he is on the baseball field. The Dodgers do a great job of building up catchers, getting a good catching prospect at the age of 17, he can be a very good player for the Dodgers in about five years. A lot can happen over those five years but his potential is through the roof. He is a player that is hard to root against.
