Ryan Pepiot is the number two prospect in the Dodgers top 30 list. Ryan is a right-handed pitcher currently pitching for the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers as of August 2nd. The Dodgers drafted Pepiot in the 2019 MLB Draft in the 3rd round, the highest pick ever in Butler College history. He stands 6’3 and weighs 215 as a 23-year-old. In AA, Ryan had a 3-4 record with an ERA of 2.87. In the 59.2 innings he pitched with the Tulsa Drillers, he has 86 strikeouts and 26 walks. Since August 2nd with the AAA Dodgers, he has a 1-5 record with an ERA of 7.53. Pepiot has struck out 36 hitters and walked 19 in his 34 2/3 innings.
Ryan Pepiot has a pitching mix of Fastball, Slider, Changeup, and possibly a Curveball (more on that later). The fastball sits at 93-96 that can touch 98 MPH, and is exceptionally effective at the top of the strike zone. Ryan added movement to the fastball this offseason, which took this already excellent pitch to the next level.
Pepiot throws the slider in the low 80’s with good horizontal movement. The slider is not his strikeout pitch; however, the slider does consistently get weak contact, making it an excellent pitch.
The changeup sits in the low 80’s. The pitch has great movement opposite the slider, making it challenging for hitters to see the difference between the two pitches. The changeup is hit best swing and miss pitch.
The curveball was a pitch he threw early in counts to steal a strike. Ryan rarely used the pitch, so the Dodgers decided it would be more beneficial to scrap it and focus more on the other three pitches.
Ryan Pepiot has an ETA of 2022. Ryan’s pitches have outstanding movement and can be effective in the Major Leagues, but his consistency is his problem. Pepiot does not have a consistent delivery which hurts his ability to throw strikes. Dodgers are working hard to help him find his balance on the mound. If he does that, not only will he be called up next year, he will be a significant impact arm as a starter or reliever.
