Michael Busch

Second Baseman Michael Busch is the Dodgers’ #3 prospect in the Dodgers’ top 30 prospect list.  Busch stands 6’1 and weighs 210 pounds, currently playing for AA Tulsa Drillers.  After being drafted in the 1st round in the 2019 MLB Draft, he only played ten games in 2019 due to breaking his hand on an HBP a la Corey Seager this year.  This season, he is hitting .241 with 16 homeruns and 49 RBIs in 94 games.  In those 357 at-bats, Busch struck out 113 times and walked 61 times.

Michael has a very patient approach to every at-bat and only swings at pitches he can hit hard.  He will also use the whole field to his advantage.  His smooth swing helps him hit the ball all over the field with some power.  His smooth swing combined with his increased focus on his leg lift makes Michael Busch a natural power hitter.  Michael Busch has the potential to hit at least 20 homeruns a season.

Although he is primarily a second baseman, he can play multiple positions.  Busch has also played some first base and left field.  When he plays first base, he has above-average quickness and hands.  Michael also is comfortable reading fly balls in left field.  Michael Busch has an average arm, but it is acceptable for second base and left field.  He reminds me of a better version of Matt Beaty.

The ETA for Michael Busch is 2022.  The Dodgers have many decisions to make in this upcoming offseason as we have impact players becoming free agents.  If the Dodgers have faith in Busch being an impact bat next year, he can save the team some money and start right away.  If he isn’t going to start every day in MLB, I’d rather have him get promoted to AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers and get consistent starting time wherever the MLB Dodgers need him to play.
