Bobby Miller, a right-handed pitcher, is the Dodgers’ #4 prospect according to the Dodgers’ top 30 prospect list and #80 on MLB’s top 100 prospect list. He stands 6’5 and weighs 220 pounds and is currently playing for the A+ Great Lakes Loons. Bobby was a 1st round pick for the Dodgers in the 2020 MLB Draft. Miller has a win-loss record of 2-2 with an ERA of 2.03 in his 13 games (started 10 of those games). In 44.1 innings pitched, he has 53 strikeouts and 11 walks.
Bobby Miller has a pitching mix of Fastball, Curveball, Slider, and a Changeup. The fastball sits in the mid 90’s and has some above-average movement to the right side. Thus far, Miller holds the velocity throughout his outing. Even though he has good velocity, he needs to work on his command as he has trouble avoiding the middle of the plate.
The curveball is just a change of pace pitch. Miller throws it in the low 80’s and can freeze batters in their at-bats.
Miller throws the slider in the upper 80’s and can touch 90 MPH. The pitch pairs very well with the fastball and can also look like a cutter. Bobby likes to throw the pitch under the left-handed hitter’s hands and run away from right-handed hitters. It is a high-quality pitch but not his out pitch as it doesn’t miss too many bats but induces weak contact.
Bobby Miller throws his changeup in the mid 80’s with fabulous downward movement. Highly effective in the lower half of the plate and can also be classified as a splitter—an excellent number three-pitch behind the fastball and slider.
ETA for Bobby Miller is 2023. Miller can be a solid mid-rotation starter in a couple of years as he continues to improve his control. Bobby Miller is skilled enough to be called up next year as a bullpen piece due to his advanced pitch mix. Perhaps he can be the next great Dodger closer.
